THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Meekness positions a person for divine guidance, instruction, and wisdom.
THE MESSAGE
The Scripture makes it clear that meekness is a major pathway to the wisdom and guidance of God. Psalm 25:14 says, The secret of the LORD is with them that fear him; and he will shew them his covenant.
God will always teach and guide the meek. Concerning Moses, Numbers 12:3, says, Now the man Moses was very meek, above all the men which were upon the face of the earth. Moses was one of the wisest and impactful men in the Old Testament. He was the man who laid hands on Joshua, and Joshua was filled with the spirit of wisdom. The wisdom Moses carried was connected to his meekness.
Now, what is meekness?
i. Meekness equals openness to learning. Meekness has a lot to do with being teachable. It is openness to learning. Proverbs 1:5 says, A wise man will hear, and will increase learning; and a man of understanding shall attain unto wise counsels:
There are people whose minds are closed to learning. They do not think anyone can teach them, and so they are not open to learning anything. But if you are going to be wise, everything and everyone can be instructive. Proverbs 24:32 says, Then I saw, and considered it well: I looked upon it, and received instruction
Solomon, the wise King says in Proverbs 6:6-7, Go to the ant, thou sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise: This means that everything around him was a source of inspiration and instruction, including the ant.
If the ant can teach a person, then anything in life can become a lesson. No wonder, a teachable person will continue to grow in wisdom and understanding.
ii. Meekness equals eagerness to learn. Meekness is not only openness to learn, but also eagerness to learn. It is the recognition of the fact that one does not know everything. It is the passionate desire to keep learning from God.
Hosea 6:3 says, Then shall we know, if we follow on to know the Lord. This speaks of a continuous pursuit of knowledge and understanding. A meek person never assumes they know everything. They remain teachable, hungry for insight, and willing to receive instruction.
iii. Meekness equals yieldedness to correction. It is the attitude that says, “Lord, I do not claim to be an expert on this matter.”
In 1 Samuel 16:6, when God instructed Samuel to go the house of Jesse and anoint one of Jesse’s sons as king over Israel, Samuel saw Eliab and said, Surely the Lord’s anointed is before Him. But God corrected him and said, “No, you missed it.” Samuel moved to another son, and again God said, “You still missed it.” And God kept correcting Samuel until David was revealed and brought forth.
Beloved, anyone who is full of himself, his own knowledge and wisdom can easily be set aside by God. Even if a person thinks he knows so much, he must remain empty before God. If God must pour wisdom, instruction and direction into your life, you must empty yourself before Him.
REMEMBER THIS: Meekness positions a person for divine guidance, instruction and wisdom.
