MEMORISE: ….for the LORD seeth not as man seeth; for man looketh on the outward appearance, but the LORD looketh on the heart. – 1 Samuel 16:7
BIBLE READING: 1 Peter 3:3-4
3 Whose adorning let it not be that outward adorning of plaiting the hair, and of wearing of gold, or of putting on of apparel;
4 But let it be the hidden man of the heart, in that which is not corruptible, even the ornament of a meek and quiet spirit, which is in the sight of God of great price.
THE MESSAGE:
Before you continue reading today’s devotional, I want you to go to a mirror and smile at your reflection. You can even take out your phone and take a selfie. Then, say to yourself, ” am God’s most beautiful or handsome creation.” Afterwards, drop your phone and return to your reading table to continue your quiet time with God.
In a world that is obsessed with looks and makeovers, which cause people to conform to beauty standards, you should be different. I want you to rise above the societal pressure to look a certain way because God values inner beauty more than outward appearance. Today’s Bible reading emphasizes that God examines our hearts to see the beauty of a gentle and quiet spirit.
My dear child, true beauty shines through your character, such as kindness, patience, and humility; not through makeup or wearing expensive dresses. I want you to focus more on developing your character so that when people come into contact with you and your good character, they will know that you are truly a child of God.
REFLECTION:
Are you truly beautiful on the inside?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Mark 16 Deuteronomy 28-30
HYMN 72 – O WORSHIP THE KING
1 O worship the King
All-glorious above,
O gratefully sing
His power and His love:
Our shield and defender,
The Ancient of Days,
Pavilioned in splendor
And girded with praise.
2 O tell of His might
O sing of His grace,
whose robe is the light,
Whose canopy space.
His chariots of wrath
The deep thunder-clouds form,
And dark is His path
On the wings of the storm.
3 Thy bountiful care,
What tongue can recite?
It breathes in the air,
It shines in the light;
It streams from the hills,
It descends to the plain,
And sweetly distils
In the dew and the rain.
4 Frail children of dust,
And feeble as frail,
In Thee do we trust,
Nor find Thee to fail.
Thy mercies, how tender,
How firm to the end,
Our Maker, Defender,
Redeemer, and Friend!
5 O measureless Might,
ineffable Love!
While angels delight
To hymn Thee above,
The humbler creation,
Though feeble their lays,
With true adoration
Shall lisp to Thy praise.
