TOPIC – Gifted But Wasted.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR: Jeremiah 41, Jeremiah 42, Acts 28, Romans 1.
FIRE SCRIPTURE: 2 Kings 10:18-31 (KJV)
18 And Jehu gathered all the people together, and said unto them, Ahab served Baal a little; but Jehu shall serve him much.
19 Now therefore call unto me all the prophets of Baal, all his servants, and all his priests; let none be wanting: for I have a great sacrifice to do to Baal; whosoever shall be wanting, he shall not live. But Jehu did it in subtilty, to the intent that he might destroy the worshippers of Baal.
20 And Jehu said, Proclaim a solemn assembly for Baal. And they proclaimed it.
21 And Jehu sent through all Israel: and all the worshippers of Baal came, so that there was not a man left that came not. And they came into the house of Baal; and the house of Baal was full from one end to another.
22 And he said unto him that was over the vestry, Bring forth vestments for all the worshippers of Baal. And he brought them forth vestments.
23 And Jehu went, and Jehonadab the son of Rechab, into the house of Baal, and said unto the worshippers of Baal, Search, and look that there be here with you none of the servants of the Lord, but the worshippers of Baal only.
24 And when they went in to offer sacrifices and burnt offerings, Jehu appointed fourscore men without, and said, If any of the men whom I have brought into your hands escape, he that letteth him go, his life shall be for the life of him.
25 And it came to pass, as soon as he had made an end of offering the burnt offering, that Jehu said to the guard and to the captains, Go in, and slay them; let none come forth. And they smote them with the edge of the sword; and the guard and the captains cast them out, and went to the city of the house of Baal.
26 And they brought forth the images out of the house of Baal, and burned them.
27 And they brake down the image of Baal, and brake down the house of Baal, and made it a draught house unto this day.
28 Thus Jehu destroyed Baal out of Israel.
29 Howbeit from the sins of Jeroboam the son of Nebat, who made Israel to sin, Jehu departed not from after them, to wit, the golden calves that were in Bethel, and that were in Dan.
30 And the Lord said unto Jehu, Because thou hast done well in executing that which is right in mine eyes, and hast done unto the house of Ahab according to all that was in mine heart, thy children of the fourth generation shall sit on the throne of Israel.
31 But Jehu took no heed to walk in the law of the Lord God of Israel with all his heart: for he departed not from the sins of Jeroboam, which made Israel to sin.
MEMORY VERSE: Trust in the Lord with all thine heart; and lean not unto thine own understanding. In all thy ways acknowledge him, and he shall direct thy paths. – Proverbs 3:5-6 (KJV)
MOTIVATIONAL QUOTES: Our natural abilities and strengths find their greatest usefulness under the control of Christ.
PRAISE AND WORSHIP: Take praise and worship songs as led by the Holy Spirit.
PROPHETIC WORD FOR TODAY: Divine endowments in your life shall not be a waste, in the Name of Jesus.
The MESSAGE:
Today, we will examine the life of a king in Judah called Jehu. This man was anointed by the son of the prophet to carry out a specific assignment and equipped to be a reformer. Jehu had zeal and determination to fulfil the divine agenda, but he missed out at the end. Unfortunately, history recorded him as one who was equipped but ended up as a waste. He wasted the divine resources and privileges available for great accomplishments on the altar of idolatry.
God used him to topple the dynasty of the evil king, Ahab, and to get rid of the worship of Baal in Judah by pulling down its altars and killing its priests. He also destroyed the wicked wife of king Ahab, Jezebel. In fact, because of his faithfulness, God promised that his sons up to the fourth generation would be on the throne (v. 30). Unfortunately, Jehu fell out of total commitment to the Lord God of Israel; he engaged in the sins of Jeroboam, son of Nebat, by worshipping the golden calves that were set up in Bethel and Dan. He ended badly.
There are obvious lessons to learn from the life of Jehu. Despite his zeal for the divine assignment, he failed to realize that his success lay only within God’s presence. Without Him in a man’s life, all his gifts, abilities and strengths cannot be well utilized. Jehu lost out on God’s blessings and fell into the sins of his forefathers. Remember the warning of scripture, “Let him that thinks he stands, take heed, lest he fall” (1 Corinthians 10:12). Jehu forgot that all he did could not have been possible if not for God.
It is important that you remain connected to the Source, no matter the level of your success in life and ministry. God’s gifts and abilities shine best when you are connected to Him. He is the Source of our strengths and abilities. He is the Giver of gifts and talents. When you indulge in self-sustenance, errors, failure, shame and humiliation are imminent. Without Him, you will be wasted. Make sure you’re not disconnected.
PRAYER POINTS:
MORNING
I shall not be recorded among the gifted but wasted, in the Name of Jesus.
Father Lord, enable me to put my divine resources into proper use for Your glory, in the Name of Jesus.
I plug my life to the socket of power of the Almighty, in the Name of Jesus.
EVENING
Power of error and shame, depart from my life, in the Name of Jesus.
I shall not stray from God’s purpose for my life, in the Name of Jesus.
Every sin of idolatry hidden in my life, be exposed and die, in the Name of Jesus.
O God, arise; empower me to stand for You till the end of my life, in the Name of Jesus.
