Devotional
Dunamis Seeds Of Destiny 29 October 2026 Devotional By Dr. Paul Enenche
TOPIC: The Necessity Of Prayer.
SCRIPTURE: And he spake a parable unto them to this end, that men ought always to pray, and not to faint; – Luke 18:1
THOUGHT FOR THE DAY: Prayer is necessary to lubricate or service our relationship with God.
THE MESSAGE:
Our anchor Scripture makes it abundantly clear that men ought always to pray and not faint. God admonished His people to pray always without getting tired — Praying always with all prayer and supplication in the Spirit, and watching thereunto with all perseverance and supplication for all saints; Ephesians 6:18.
Pray without ceasing literally means pray as you breathe. The only thing we do without stopping is breathe. You can take a break from food. You can take a break from water. You can even take a break from sleep. But no one takes a break from breathing. A break from breathing equals death. Any other thing can cease but let not your prayer cease.
Why is it so necessary to pray as we breathe?
Prayer is necessary to lubricate or service our relationship with God, our Maker. Matthew 6:9 says, After this manner therefore pray ye: Our Father which art in heaven, Hallowed be thy name. “Our Father which art in heaven” — that is relationship.
Psalms 55:17 says, Evening, and morning, and at noon, will I pray, and cry aloud: and he shall hear my voice. God needs to hear my voice, and so I need to be in touch with Him. I need to talk with Him. So, prayerlessness is proof of relationship breakdown. The relationship between man and God breaks down when there is no prayer life. So, you pray like you breathe to sustain your relationship with your Maker.
Prayer is necessary to access help from God in seasons of urgency, battles, helplessness, and need. We have the license to call Him in crisis, in a midnight kind of situation (Psalm 121:1-8). The only place to turn to for help is the Presence of God at the altar of prayer.
However, God must recognise your voice in times of peace to respond to it in times of war. In peaceful seasons, when there is no problem, when you are not asking for anything, you come simply to express your love, your worship, and your relationship. You must stay in good terms with God in times of peace, because if He doesn’t know your voice in peacetime, He won’t recognise or respond to it in wartime.
Beloved, ensure that your prayer life is not surrendered to the altar of excessive busyness in life. Pray as you breathe. No one is ever too busy to breathe.
REMEMBER THIS: Prayer is necessary to lubricate or service our relationship with God.
ASSIGNMENT(S):
Set specific times today – morning, noon, and evening to pray, and be rigid with the schedule.
Endeavour to make your voice known to God in times of peace, so He can recognise it when you call Him in times of war.
PRAYER: Father, thank You for the privilege of prayer. Forgive me for all the times I have treated prayer as optional rather than an indispensable necessity. Teach me to pray without ceasing, Lord, in Jesus’ Name.
