TOPIC – Don’t Respond With Hate.
MEMORISE: But I say unto you which hear, Love your enemies, do good to them which hate you, – Luke 6:27
BIBLE READING: Matthew 5:40-46
40 And if any man will sue thee at the law, and take away thy coat, let him have thy cloak also.
41 And whosoever shall compel thee to go a mile, go with him twain.
42 Give to him that asketh thee, and from him that would borrow of thee turn not thou away.
43 Ye have heard that it hath been said, Thou shalt love thy neighbour, and hate thine enemy.
44 But I say unto you, Love your enemies, bless them that curse you, do good to them that hate you, and pray for them which despitefully use you, and persecute you;
45 That ye may be the children of your Father which is in heaven: for he maketh his sun to rise on the evil and on the good, and sendeth rain on the just and on the unjust.
46 For if ye love them which love you, what reward have ye? do not even the publicans the same?
THE MESSAGE:
Jesus knew you’d face difficult people just as He did while on earth, but He has Commanded you to love your enemies and to do good to those who hate you. I know this can be tough because I have experienced hatred from other people, but | have come to realise that love isn’t about what another person deserves; rather, it’s about reflecting God’s grace. When you love your enemies, you shine Christ’s light in a dark world.
In today’s Bible reading, Jesus said, “But | say to you, love your enemies, bless those who curse you, do good to those who hate you, and pray for those who spitefully use you and persecute you,” (Matthew 5:44). Pray that God will turn the hearts of your enemies around, and trust Him to handle their actions. Show them kindness, as this may lead them towards Christ. However, do not be careless; you must always be careful and prayerful.
My dear child, loving your enemies doesn’t mean that you should tolerate abuse or misconduct. It’s a call to set boundaries when you relate with people, especially those who don’t like you. When you respond to such people with love, you honour God and also grow in strength and peace.
KEY POINT:
When people hate you, you must respond with love.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Luke 7:1-30 Judges 1-2
HYMN 27 – What A Friend We Have In Jesus
1 What a Friend we have in Jesus,
All our sins and griefs to bear!
What a privilege to carry
Everything to God in prayer!
O what peace we often forfeit,
O what needless pain we bear,
All because we do not carry
Everything to God in prayer!
2 Have we trials and temptations?
Is there trouble anywhere?
We should never be discouraged,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
Can we find a friend so faithful
Who will all our sorrows share?
Jesus knows our every weakness,
Take it to the Lord in prayer.
3 Are we weak and heavy-laden,
Cumbered with a load of care?
Precious Savior, still our refuge—
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
Do thy friends despise, forsake thee?
Take it to the Lord in prayer;
In His arms He’ll take and shield thee,
Thou wilt find a solace there
