TOPIC – Hustle Honourably (1).
MEMORISE: Wealth gotten by vanity shall be diminished: but he that gathereth by labour shall increase. Proverbs 13:11
BIBLE READING: Matthew 25:24-28
24 Then he which had received the one talent came and said, Lord, I knew thee that thou art an hard man, reaping where thou hast not sown, and gathering where thou hast not strawed:
25 And I was afraid, and went and hid thy talent in the earth: lo, there thou hast that is thine.
26 His lord answered and said unto him, Thou wicked and slothful servant, thou knewest that I reap where I sowed not, and gather where I have not strawed:
27 Thou oughtest therefore to have put my money to the exchangers, and then at my coming I should have received mine own with usury.
28 Take therefore the talent from him, and give it unto him which hath ten talents.
THE MESSAGE:
One of the events I will never forget in my life was when I wanted to proceed to secondary school, but my family had no money to pay the bills. My dad refused to listen to pleas to raise the money for my tuition, so I resorted to embarking on a hunger strike. I refused to eat anything for days, and when my mom became Concerned that I could die from my hunger strike, she prevailed on my dad to sell his goat to pay my school fees. When I started raising my own children, I saw the same resilience in them. However, theirs was different; they would rather work for the things they wanted than go on hunger strikes.
I remember when one of my sons needed a pair of shoes that he knew I couldn’t afford. Rather than steal or pester me, he joined the labourers who were building the first auditorium at the Redemption Camp (now Redemption City) to earn meagre daily pay. He saved up and was able to buy the pair of shoes for himself. By the grace of God, he is successful in business today due to his resilience.
My dear child, life will not always be a bed of roses, and your parents may be unable to provide all you need. Rather than steal or engage in ungodly acts, think of legal ways to achieve your God-given goals in a way that honours God. I pray that God will give you the wisdom and strength to pursue your goals according to His divine principles.
KEY POINT:
Let your hustle honour God.
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Mark 15:1-26; Deuteronomy 26-27
HYMN 66 – THROUGH THE LOVE OF GOD OUR SAVIOUR
1 Through the love of God our Saviour,
All will be well;
Free and changeless is His favour,
All, all is well:
Precious is the blood that healed us;
Perfect is the grace that sealed us:
Strong the hand stretched forth to shield us,
All must be well.
2 Though we pass through tribulation,
All will be well;
Ours is such a full salvation,
All,all is well:
Happy still in God confiding;
Fruitfull in Christ abiding;
Holy through the Spirit’s guiding:
All must be well.
3 We expect a bright tomorrow;
All will be well;
Faith can sing through days of Sorrow,
All, all is well:
On our Father’s love relying,
Jesus every need supplying,
Or in living or in dying,
All must be well.
