TOPIC – Harmful Or Healing.
MEMORISE: Death and life are in the power of the tongue…… Proverbs 18:21
BIBLE READING: James 3:1-5
1 My brethren, be not many masters, knowing that we shall receive the greater condemnation.
2 For in many things we offend all. If any man offend not in word, the same is a perfect man, and able also to bridle the whole body.
3 Behold, we put bits in the horses’ mouths, that they may obey us; and we turn about their whole body.
4 Behold also the ships, which though they be so great, and are driven of fierce winds, yet are they turned about with a very small helm, whithersoever the governor listeth.
5 Even so the tongue is a little member, and boasteth great things. Behold, how great a matter a little fire kindleth!
The MESSAGE:
Words are weighty; therefore, you must be careful about what comes out of your mouth. Instead of engaging in gossip, use your speech to uplift others and share God’s truth. Today’s Bible reading compares the tongue to a small fire that can set a forest ablaze. Words can harm or heal, so choose what you say carefully. One of the ways I choose the words I say is by first asking myself, “Will what I say reflect God’s love?”
Believe me, the best way to speak words seasoned with love is to be a Bible buff. This means that you should know scriptures so well that they reflect in all your conversations, even when you are chatting with your friends. I learnt this a long time ago; that’s why lI hardly preach a sermon without backing up each point with a Bible reference.
As a child of God who wants to influence others positively, you can’t afford to be careless with your words. Even when someone does something to get you angry. don’t curse or insult him or her because words are powerful, and if spoken wrongly, they could bring grave consequences. If you cannot speak gently and constructively to them in that moment, simply keep quiet. May you always use your words to uplift people, in Jesus’ name.
REFLECTION:
Do your words cause harm or bring healing to others?
BIBLE IN ONE YEAR:
Mark 11, Numbers 36, Deuteronomy 1
HYMN 5 – Blessed Assurance
1 Blessed assurance, Jesus is mine
Oh, what a foretaste of glory divine
Heir of salvation, purchase of God
Born of His Spirit, washed in His blood
Chorus:
This is my story, this is my song
Praising my Saviour all the day long
This is my story, this is my Song
Praising my Saviour all the day long
2 Perfect submission, perfect delight,
Visions of rapture now burst on my sight,
Angel descending, bring from above
Echoes of mercy, whispers of love.
3 Perfect submission, all is at rest
Tin my Savior am happy and blessed
Watching and waiting, looking above
Filled with His goodness, lost in His love
